MAAC’s Continued Commitment to Affordable Housing

Nine months ago, MAAC took responsibility for day-to-day management of the President John Adams Manor (PJAM), a 300-unit affordable housing community which the organization has owned since 1998, and secured financing for a complete renovation of the property. “MAAC is investing $14 million in the property, that’s about $47,000 per unit, to create better homes for our residents,” said Arnulfo Manriquez, President and CEO of MAAC. Construction will begin in November 2018 and is expected to take about one year.

MAAC launches new workforce development program, Connect to Success

MAAC, is excited to announce “Connect to Success,” a workforce development program designed to help prepare high school students enrolled at MAAC Community Charter School (MCCS), with the technical and soft skills needed to acquire living-wage jobs in green construction and health careers pathways. Through Connect to Success, services offered will be integrated with curriculum at the charter school. During the first three years of the program, approximately 100 students are expected to complete the trainings and certifications necessary to help give them an advantage for the post-high school job market.

Opinion: Caring for 1,450 unaccompanied minors every day in San Diego was daunting but we didn’t hesitate


MAAC played a pivotal role in the emergency intake shelter for unaccompanied migrant children at the San Diego Convention Center. Alongside other local service organizations, MAAC leveraged its expertise in childcare and trauma-informed services to help develop and operate the shelter’s social services. This collaborative effort ensured that the children’s physical, emotional, and educational needs were met, resulting in the successful reunification of over 2,400 minors with their families and placement of an additional 800 with supportive sponsors.
